Drones Crash in Baltic States; Ukraine May Send Experts to Enhance Air Defense

Ukraine is considering sending security experts to Baltic nations to help bolster air defense following recent drone crashes in the region. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba indicated that these incidents might be linked to Russian electronic warfare jamming. Two drones, suspected to be from Ukraine, crashed in Latvia on May 7th after entering from the direction of Russia. Kuleba stated that if the drones are confirmed to be Ukrainian and were diverted by Russian electronic warfare systems, Ukraine would offer sincere apologies, emphasizing that Ukraine never intentionally flies drones towards Latvia. Ukraine has previously apologized to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland for similar unintentional events, attributing them to Russian electronic warfare systems altering drone flight paths. Kyiv is cooperating with these nations to reduce the risk of recurrence. Under President Zelenskyy's directive, Ukraine is evaluating sending expert teams to directly assist allied nations in improving air security and preventing unforeseen events. Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have reported multiple drone incursions in recent months, some believed to be Ukrainian drones originally targeting Russia. Latvia and Lithuania have called for NATO to strengthen air defense in the region.
