(CNA, Taichung, 18th, Reporter Chao Li-yen) Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen stated today that the bidding for the Taichung Super Dome BOT development project closed on April 27, with only Taiwan Life Insurance submitting a bid. She revealed that the project's value is close to NT$60 billion, with 45,700 seats, a shopping mall of 100,000 ping (approx. 330,578 sq meters), and is expected to be completed and opened in 2031. The Taichung City Council held a regular meeting today, where KMT city councilor Chang Liao Nai-luen questioned the Super Dome BOT project. With the submission deadline on April 27, only Taiwan Life Insurance, a subsidiary of CTBC Financial Holding, placed a bid. According to regulations for promotion of private participation in infrastructure projects, a competitive evaluation will still be conducted. She asked about the subsequent review process. Lu Shiow-yen stated that the feasibility study report submitted by Taiwan Life Insurance will be reviewed in a fair, reasonable, and professional manner. Due to rising global prices for raw materials and labor, the current cost could be close to NT$60 billion. Lu also revealed that the seating capacity for the Super Dome proposed by Taiwan Life Insurance is 45,700, surpassing the 40,000 seats of the Taipei Dome. Additionally, a hotel and department stores are planned, with a proposed mall floor area of 100,000 ping, which is larger than the largest department store at the Taichung High-Speed Rail station in Wuri District. Lu said that the CTBC Group will play the role of investor and integrator, and will cooperate with the Ham Group, which operates the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in Japan. The report is currently under review. If it passes smoothly this year and construction proceeds without issues, the Super Dome could be completed and operational around 2031.
