Far EasTone Partners with Amazon LEO; Chunghwa Telecom Remains Open to Cooperation

(CNA, Taipei, May 19, by reporter Chiang Ming-yen) Far EasTone Telecommunications announced today that it has signed a cooperation agreement to become an authorized reseller for Amazon's LEO service in Taiwan. Chunghwa Telecom stated it welcomes industry partners jointly entering the satellite market, noting that Chunghwa has already integrated high, medium, and low-orbit satellites with terrestrial networks and emphasizes it maintains an open cooperative attitude towards Amazon LEO and other international operators.

Far EasTone announced today that it has signed a cooperation agreement to become an authorized reseller for Amazon's LEO service in Taiwan, introducing high-speed low-earth orbit satellite services with download speeds of up to 1 Gbps to help enterprise and government customers build highly resilient communications.

Chunghwa Telecom, which had previously expressed strong interest in the cooperation, stated that the entry of satellite operators into Taiwan helps enrich the overall satellite ecosystem and promotes industrial development. It welcomes industry partners to jointly invest in the satellite market to drive the continued growth and prosperity of Taiwan's satellite industry.

Chunghwa Telecom said it has long been aligned with national policy to enhance communication resilience. In the low-earth orbit satellite field, it has already pioneered the introduction of OneWeb, brought in SES for medium-earth orbit, and combined these with existing high-orbit resources, accumulating practical deployment and operational experience.

Chunghwa Telecom stressed that its strategy is not to rely on a single constellation but to integrate high, medium, and low-orbit satellites with terrestrial networks through a 'multi-orbit, multi-constellation, multi-routing' approach to provide the optimal communication solution for different scenarios.

Chunghwa Telecom emphasized that it always maintains an open cooperative attitude towards Amazon LEO and other international operators. It will combine its advantages in backbone networks, submarine cables, mobile, and cybersecurity integration to make satellites a crucial support for Taiwan's communication resilience, ensuring uninterrupted communication in critical moments.
