Taipei, May 19 (CNA) The Taipei stock market closed down 716.26 points today, settling at 40175.56 points. The May Taiwan stock index futures closed at 40248 points, a decrease of 549 points, showing a positive spread of 72.44 points compared to the spot market. The Taiwan Futures Exchange set the opening reference prices for the nearest two-month index futures contracts: May futures at 40797 points and June futures at 40963 points. The Taiwan stock market's closing price today was 40175.56 points, with a total transaction value of NT$1,088.073 billion. The May Taiwan stock index futures closed at 40248 points, down 549 points, with 61,061 contracts traded; the June futures closed at 40383 points, down 580 points, with 20,674 contracts traded.
