Mitsui Fudosan Launches Major Inspection After Security Camera at Taichung LaLaport Store Allegedly Faced Fitting Room

(CNA, Taichung, May 19) A customer at a sporting goods store in Taichung City's East District LaLaport shopping center filed a police report after discovering a security camera aimed at the fitting room while trying on clothes. Mitsui Fudosan Group announced today that it has launched a full-scale inspection of its three Outlets and two LaLaports across Taiwan. The customer, while trying on clothes recently, looked up and found a surveillance camera on the wall aimed at the fitting room. Through the gap in the door and reflections in a full-length mirror, it was suspected that the changing process could be recorded, leading to a police report and a post on the internet. The Third Precinct of the Taichung City Police Department stated that on the 18th, they received a report from a citizen alleging that they were recorded by a camera outside the fitting room via mirror reflection while trying on clothes. The store and the installer have been summoned for questioning. The case will be forwarded to the Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of offenses against privacy and offenses against sexual privacy and false sexual images. Taichung LaLaport told CNA that they are fully cooperating with the police and prosecutorial investigation. The surveillance cameras inside the store were installed by a contractor, and a full inspection will be conducted at all three Outlets and two LaLaports in Taiwan.
