Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen Urges President Lai to Genuinely Safeguard the Republic of China

(CNA, Taichung, 19th) Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen stated today that for Taiwan's security, she suggests President Lai Ching-te should quickly eliminate international doubts by explaining that Taiwan will not declare independence. She also noted that as President Lai concurrently serves as the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, he should abolish the pro-independence party platform and genuinely safeguard the Republic of China. U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 15th that he does not want to see Taiwan move toward independence and that both China and Taiwan should de-escalate the situation. Furthermore, regarding the Legislative Yuan's scheduled roll-call vote on President Lai's impeachment case, Lu stated during a media interview at the Taichung City Council this morning that in a democratic society, politicians should accept and will be subject to scrutiny, just like the previous major recalls.
