Two Japanese Nationals Injured in Stabbing at Shanghai Restaurant

(CNA, Taipei, 19th) According to a Kyodo News report, a 59-year-old man injured three people with a fruit knife today inside a Japanese restaurant in a commercial office building in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, China. A source from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that two of the injured are Japanese, but their current condition is unknown. Meanwhile, Shanghai police said the assailant has a "history of treatment for mental illness." The Kyodo News report mentioned that information about the man's attack was released by Shanghai police. However, the information that two of the three injured were Japanese was disclosed by a source from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is currently unaware of the condition of the two Japanese victims. The report pointed out that the crime scene is a commercial center with a concentration of financial institutions, and the building houses Japanese-funded enterprises and has a relatively large number of Japanese people.
