A couple on a motorcycle died after being sent to the hospital following a collision with a parked telecommunications engineering vehicle on the Datorn section of the South-Link Highway in Taitung tonight. According to a preliminary police investigation, the couple was returning home after buying dinner when the accident occurred about 200 meters from their village. Based on the initial police investigation and statements from nearby residents, a man surnamed Yeh, around 70 years old and residing in Datorn Village, Dawu Township, was riding a motorcycle with his wife, a woman surnamed Chang around 60 years old, to buy dinner at the Dawu Night Market. On their way home, they crashed into a parked van-type engineering vehicle belonging to a telecommunications company about 200 meters from their village. The couple showed no signs of life at the scene. The Taitung County Fire Department stated that they received a report at 7 PM tonight about a motorcycle with two riders crashing into a parked car at the 416-kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 9 (Datorn section of the South-Link Highway), resulting in two individuals (1 male, 1 female) with Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). The woman was sent to the Dawu Emergency Station, and the man to Taitung MacKay Memorial Hospital. Both the Dawu Emergency Station and Taitung MacKay Memorial Hospital confirmed that the patients died after arrival. The Dawu Precinct of the Taitung County Police Bureau stated that the cause of the accident and liability are under investigation.
