TAIPEI, May 20 (CNA) – A passenger who trespassed onto the tracks at Taiwan Railways' Songshan Station was hit and killed by a freight train today. After an investigation, the Railway Police Bureau identified the deceased as a nearly 90-year-old man surnamed Su. He had entered the railway line on his own and was struck by the train, with no external forces involved. Police and firefighters received a report around 1:00 PM that a passenger at Songshan Station had fallen onto the tracks for unknown reasons and died after being hit by a freight train. The identity of the deceased and the cause of the incident were pending clarification. After completing the on-site evidence collection at 2:40 PM, officers from the Railway Police Bureau identified the deceased as 88-year-old Mr. Su. A review of surveillance footage showed that Mr. Su entered the railway line on his own before being struck by the train, with no foul play involved. The detailed reasons are still under investigation. The train was cleared to proceed and depart from the scene.
