(Central News Agency Taipei, May 20) On May 19, a knife attack occurred at a Japanese restaurant on the 3rd floor of a business building on Century Avenue in Shanghai. A 59‑year‑old man named Yang, who has a history of mental illness, was arrested by Pudong police. Three people were injured, including two Japanese nationals who are not in life‑threatening condition. The other victim is a Chinese woman. The incident took place in a commercial centre housing many Japanese companies. A Japanese businessman on the premises described the tense police presence. Japanese authorities have asked China to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens in China.
