Taipei, May 20 (CNA) - President Lai Ching-te stated today that the government will soon propose a new population strategy for Taiwan, the 'Family Support Chapter,' to address the challenge of a low birth rate. One of the key measures is a decision to provide a 'growth allowance' of NT$5,000 per person per month for individuals aged 0 to 18. President Lai made the remarks at the Presidential Office this morning during a speech marking the second anniversary of his administration, accompanied by Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and Secretary-General to the President Pan Men-an. He said that to tackle the challenge of the declining birthrate, the government's new strategy aims to provide assistance in areas such as marriage, pregnancy, child-rearing, friendly workplaces, and housing for families, enabling a balance between work and family life. The goal is to encourage young people to feel confident in getting married, having children, raising a family, and pursuing happiness. (Editor: Chang Liang-chih)
