(CNA, Taipei, May 20, by reporters Kao Hua-chien, Wen Kuei-hsiang, Yeh Su-ping) President Lai Ching-te said today he congratulates Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-tzu and translator Lin King, whose work "Taiwan Travelogue" won the "International Booker Prize." He stated this is another major international literary award for them after the American Book Award, which signifies that young people in Taiwan already have the capability to shine on the world stage. During his speech on the second anniversary of his administration at the Presidential Office this morning, President Lai said he wanted to specifically address young friends. Thirty years ago, the previous generation of Taiwanese people opened the door to democracy with courage; thirty years later, he hopes young friends will use their creativity, professionalism, and actions to open the future for Taiwan's next generation. President Lai said that as president, "I will support you," and continue to invest in education, technology, culture, sports, and international exchange, so that young people do not have to leave Taiwan to see the world, and so that the world sees Taiwan because of the creativity of its young people. The courage of the youth is the driving force for Taiwan to continue moving forward.
