TPP to Nominate Chiu Chen-yuan for Zhubei Mayor; Hsinchu City Confirms His Resignation as Deputy Mayor

(CNA, Hsinchu City, May 20, by reporter Lu Kang-chun) Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Huang Kuo-chang said today that the party will nominate Hsinchu City Deputy Mayor Chiu Chen-yuan to run for mayor of Zhubei City in Hsinchu County. The Hsinchu City Government stated that Chiu submitted his resignation yesterday, and it became effective today. During a live interview on the radio program "Matters of a Thousand Autumns" this morning, Huang mentioned that the TPP's election decision committee met yesterday and approved the nomination of Chiu Chen-yuan for the Zhubei mayoral race. The party's Central Committee is also scheduled to formally convene this afternoon. Huang noted that there is already a very high consensus within the party, and it is expected that the proposal will pass the Central Committee without issue. The Personnel Department of the Hsinchu City Government informed CNA via a written statement that Chiu Chen-yuan submitted his resignation on May 19 for personal career planning, effective today. Hsinchu Mayor Kao Hung-an, in an interview with the media, stated that Chiu had submitted his resignation to her yesterday. She wished him success in his campaign for Zhubei mayor and hoped he could bring his experience and abilities from promoting Hsinchu's municipal affairs to Zhubei.
