(CNA, Tokyo, 21st, by reporter Tai Ya-chen) An alleged exam impersonation incident occurred during Nihon University's entrance examinations this March. A Chinese cram school instructor suspected of impersonating another person to take the test was caught after unexpectedly meeting the actual student in the examination hall, leading to the case's exposure. Police announced the instructor's arrest today. According to reports from the Mainichi Shimbun, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Setagaya Police Station announced that the arrested individual is Li Bin, a 39-year-old Chinese national and cram school instructor residing in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture. Police arrested him on suspicion of charges including unlawful entry into a building and forgery of official documents with a seal. Police stated that Li is suspected of entering the Nihon University entrance examination venue in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, on March 4, and impersonating a male Chinese student in his teens to take the exam. However, after he sat down in the seat designated on the exam admission ticket, the real student also appeared in the hall. As both held admission tickets and residence cards with the same name, university staff noticed the discrepancy and immediately reported it to the police. According to the police investigation, Li has admitted to the offense, stating that he accepted a request from an unknown person via the messaging app WeChat, who claimed, "You will be paid if you take the exam for me." When he entered the venue, he was also hiding a miniature camera and microphone. At the time of discovery, he had already written the student's name on the English exam paper. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department believes that an organized cheating ring may be behind this case. They suspect he intended to covertly film the exam questions and transmit them to an outside party, and are continuing to investigate the masterminds.
