Chou Szu-chi Honored as Distinguished Alumnus by Fu Jen University, Donates NT$500,000 for Bats

(CNA, Taipei, 21st, by reporter Su Chih-she) Former CTBC Brothers star Chou Szu-chi returned to his alma mater, Fu Jen Catholic University, today to be honored as a distinguished alumnus. He also announced the donation of NT$500,000 worth of training bats to the Fu Jen baseball team. He said, "Fu Jen cultivated me back then; now it's my turn to be a pillar of support for the younger players."

Upon receiving the distinguished alumnus certificate from his alma mater, Chou stated that he has always looked up to stars like Kuo Yuan-chih, Chen Yi-hsin, and Wang Kuang-hui. Coming to Fu Jen changed his perspective: "This place didn't just teach me how to play ball; it taught me how to study and how to be a better person."

Returning to his alma mater, Chou reminisced about his time on the Fu Jen baseball team. Juggling academics and athletics during his university years involved rigorous training, but it also laid a solid physical and mental foundation for his professional baseball career.

Consequently, Chou specially prepared a NT$500,000 fund for purchasing training bats for the Fu Jen Catholic University baseball team. He stated, "Baseball is a long road. The environment and challenges will change, but the original intention to pursue excellence must not. What I can do as a senior is limited, but I hope to help pave the road a little smoother for you."

In response to Chou's contribution, Fu Jen Catholic University President Lan Yi-chen said that Chou is not only a significant representative figure in Taiwan's professional baseball but has also actively engaged in promoting grassroots baseball and sports education by founding the "Chiu-Ya Foundation" after retirement. This award, he said, is well-deserved.
