(CNA, Hsinchu, May 21, by reporter Chang Chien-chung) Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) firm Global Unichip Corp. (GUC) held its annual shareholders' meeting today, completely re-electing its board of directors. Chairman Morris Chang retired after the meeting, and Vice Chairwoman Lih-Chyun Chang has been appointed as the new chairperson. Morris Chang had announced in March of this year that he would not participate in this board election and would retire after the shareholders' meeting. GUC completed its board election today, and Chang did not seek re-election as planned. Morris Chang served as GUC's chairman for 23 years. GUC employees and shareholders presented him with flowers at the meeting to express their good wishes. Chang thanked the employees for their past efforts and encouraged them to seize the opportunities brought by artificial intelligence (AI), expecting that GUC will be able to accelerate its progress in the future. Chang also reminded GUC employees not to forget their health amidst work, to exercise more, and perhaps watch a movie, like the recently released "The Devil Wears Prada 2". TSMC secured 4 board seats at GUC, with representatives being Lih-Chyun Chang, GUC President Shang-E-Tai, TSMC CFO Jen-Chao Huang, and TSMC Vice President of Research & Development Lih-Chung Lu. Former TSMC Senior Vice President Kin-Loun King, Entie Commercial Bank Chairman Ting Yu-Kang, Hotung Venture Capital Group Chairman and CEO Tsui-Hui Huang, National Taiwan University (NTU) Department of International Business Professor Emeritus Hou-Ming Chen, and NTU College of Law Associate Professor Chao-Hung Chen were elected as independent directors. The GUC board of directors unanimously elected Lih-Chyun Chang as chairperson. GUC noted that Chang holds a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and previously served as Senior Director of the Design and Technology Platform at TSMC.
