(CNA, Hualien County, May 21, by reporter Chang Chi) The Hualien County Government is optimizing the Liangtan Bikeway by undertaking a new road construction project for the "48 Highland Steel Bridge and Crescent Bay" in Cihsingtan. Effective immediately, a section of the path requires a detour, with completion expected by the end of October. Additionally, the Hualien Port landscape bridge section is also detoured until mid-July due to a bridge demolition project. The Hualien County Government stated that the previous bikeway from Cihsingtan to 48 Highland was a staircase section, requiring cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes. A white steel bridge will be constructed to allow for direct riding, enhancing the bikeway's connectivity and the tourist experience, and is also expected to become a photo-worthy landmark. To accommodate the construction, the County Government announced that from now until the end of October, the section of the Liangtan Bikeway between the Cihsingtan Visitor Center's "Huiyou Bar" and the Crescent Bay parking area will be closed. The detour route follows Qixing Street, connects to Haian Road, then to Huadong Road, rejoining the original bikeway. The public is urged to slow down and be cautious as Haian Road has a higher volume of gravel trucks. Furthermore, the section of the Liangtan Bikeway from the "Landscape Bridge to the intersection of Haian Road and Zhongyi 2nd Street" has been closed from yesterday until July 19 to facilitate the demolition of Hualien Port's Bridge No. 20 by the Hualien Port Corporation. This construction area requires a detour to Haian Road. The Liangtan Bikeway is a crucial coastal recreational corridor in Hualien, connecting tourist spots like Cihsingtan, Hualien Port, and Liyu Lake, and is very popular among residents and visitors.
