As oil prices quickly retreated during midday trading today, major U.S. stock market indices recovered their early losses and all closed higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 276.31 points, or 0.55%, to close at 50285.66 points. The S&P 500 index gained 12.75 points, or 0.17%, closing at 7445.72 points. The Nasdaq Composite index edged up 22.74 points, or 0.09%, to finish at 26293.10 points. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index advanced 150.80 points, or 1.28%, to close at 11964.08 points.
