The Taiping Precinct of the Taichung City Police Bureau stated that officers from the Xinping Station were on patrol at around 5 p.m. when they found a light truck illegally parked on Shuxiao Road in Taiping District. As they prepared to conduct a check, a man in the passenger seat abruptly got out and ran. Officers gave chase and successfully subdued and arrested the fleeing 33-year-old Vietnamese man, surnamed Du. Police found that Du had been overstaying his visa since 2024. Today, he was returning to his rented accommodation after work with a female friend from his hometown (who had not overstayed).
