(CNA, by reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, 21st) Taichung police on patrol today at an intersection in the North District noticed a suspicious passenger car and attempted to conduct a check, but the driver refused to comply. During the process, an officer broke the car's window to stop it, but the vehicle still managed to flee. The station chief was cut by glass but his injury is not serious after being bandaged. The case is under active investigation. The Taichung City Police Department's Second Precinct stated that officers from the Yongxing Police Station were on patrol at 10:25 AM today. While passing the intersection of Chongde Road and Taiyuan Road in the North District, they noticed a passenger car waiting at a red light that appeared suspicious, and its driver was not wearing a seatbelt as required. They signaled for the car to pull over for an inspection. Unexpectedly, the male driver, upon seeing the police, suddenly accelerated and fled. During the escape, while passing the intersection of Chongde Road and Beixing Street, the car was blocked by traffic and could not proceed. Considering the traffic situation and public safety, the officers immediately used force to break the window to prevent the vehicle from continuing to flee. However, as the suspect driver continued to drive away, the officers, based on the principle of proportionality and to avoid causing harm to the lives and property of other citizens during a chase, ceased their pursuit. In the process of breaking the window and attempting to stop the car, Yongxing Station Chief He Yong-zhou sustained a cut on his hand, which was not serious. The police have formed a special task force for this case and will apprehend the suspect as soon as possible.
