A 58-year-old Taoyuan man, surnamed Liu, who owed over NT$310,000 in accumulated fines and debts for multiple instances of driving under the influence (DUI) without a license and unpaid National Health Insurance premiums, had his bank account seized by the authorities. The Taoyuan Branch of the Ministry of Justice's Administrative Enforcement Agency discovered Liu still had NT$500,000 in his savings and fully seized the funds to recover the owed amount. The Taoyuan Branch stated today that the man, from Zhongli District, was fined NT$270,000 by the Taoyuan City Traffic Adjudication Office in November 2024 for driving drunk without a license for the third time or more within 10 years, but he failed to pay by the deadline. In addition, Liu had other outstanding fines for driving without a license and unpaid National Health Insurance premiums, bringing his total debt to over NT$310,000. The case was transferred to the Taoyuan Branch for enforcement in February of this year. The Taoyuan Branch stated that after conducting a property investigation, they found Liu had approximately NT$500,000 in a bank account. They immediately issued a seizure order and successfully impounded a sufficient amount, then issued a collection order to transfer the funds to the referring agencies. The Taoyuan Branch emphasized that the Ministry of Justice's Administrative Enforcement Agency will continue to uphold the government's "zero tolerance" policy on drunk driving and rigorously enforce all types of vehicle and traffic violation cases.
