(CNA, Changhua, May 21, by reporter Wu Che-hao) The Changhua County Government held a topping-out ceremony for the Lukang National Sports Center construction project today, with County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei and others witnessing the project's entry into a significant phase. Wang stated that the project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year and will serve about 160,000 people in the Lukang, Fuxing, and Xiushui areas. This morning, the Changhua County Government held the topping-out ceremony on a vacant lot behind Lukang Senior High School, attended by Wang Huei-mei, Lukang Township Mayor Hsu Chih-hung, and others. In her speech, Wang Huei-mei mentioned that the Lukang National Sports Center has a base of about 2 hectares and adopts an all-ages design. It is planned as a 2-story modern building with diverse facilities, including an indoor heated swimming pool, basketball courts, and badminton courts. Public welfare time slots will also be planned to give priority use to people with disabilities, seniors over 65, and for school teaching, allowing sports resources to be shared with more people. Wang pointed out that the Lukang National Sports Center project is fully self-funded by the county with NT$400 million and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. In the future, it will serve about 160,000 people in the Lukang, Fuxing, and Xiushui areas, becoming a key sports hub in the coastal region. The Changhua County Government's Department of Education stated that the Lukang National Sports Center is a critical node in the county's 'sports puzzle' for its eight major living circles. With the Chang-Bei, Chang-Nan, and Hemei national sports centers already in place, the county government will continue to promote the construction of venues in places like Erlin, Xihu, and Tianzhong. In the future, it will connect sports, tourism, and local industries to build a cross-regional sports service network.
