(CNA, Taipei, May 21) At the Asian Taekwondo Championships held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Taiwan's "Taekwondo Sweetheart" Wang Chieh-ling defeated South Korea's Lee Yu-min 2-0 in the women's 46kg semi-final today, earning a chance to fight for the women's team's first gold medal in a decade. The last time the women's taekwondo team won gold at the Asian Championships was in 2016, with Chuang Chia-chia and Lin Yi-ching. Wang, who just turned 17 and recently secured her second consecutive World Taekwondo Junior Championships title, is gradually transitioning to the senior division this season under her coach's guidance. In her career-first Asian Championships, she has delivered a brilliant performance. After defeating teammate Huang Ying-hsuan in the quarterfinals, she went on to beat South Korea's Lee Yu-min with scores of 9-2 and 23-7, successfully advancing to the gold medal match, where she hopes to secure the first gold for the women's team in 10 years.
