(CNA, Taipei, May 21) At the Asian Taekwondo Championships held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Taiwan's "Taekwondo Sweetheart" Wang Chieh-ling defeated Thai opponent Patcharakan Poolkerd 4-2, 6-3 in the women's 46kg gold medal match today, clinching the first gold medal for the women's team in a decade. Wang, who just turned 17 and recently secured her second consecutive World Taekwondo Junior Championship title, delivered a brilliant performance in her career-first Asian Championships. She defeated teammate Huang Ying-hsuan and South Korea's Lee Yu-min before overpowering Poolkerd in the final. Wang becomes the first female athlete to win gold at the Asian Championships since Chuang Chia-chia and Lin Yi-ching in 2016.
