Lei Yen-feng, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, delivered a speech at The Greater Des Moines Committee on Foreign Relations in Iowa. He asserted that the U.S. has repeatedly reiterated its Taiwan policy remains unchanged, and that the U.S. and Taiwan will continue to cooperate to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Lei emphasized that Taiwan is a maintainer of regional peace, whereas China is the party creating threats and undermining stability. He also detailed Taiwan's efforts to enhance its self-defense capabilities, including increasing its defense budget and developing indigenous submarines, and highlighted the deepening economic partnership with the U.S., its fourth-largest trading partner, particularly in strategic sectors like semiconductors and AI.
