According to the Central News Agency, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an called on the central government yesterday to establish uniform national standards for the management of escape room businesses. However, the National Land Management Agency (NLMA) stated that an agreement had already been reached with local governments in 2018. Taipei City criticized this statement today as misleading the public. A female employee at the Taipei escape room 'Logic' died of asphyxiation. Mayor Chiang stated that while the city manages such businesses under the 'D-1 usage category' of the Building Act, national standards are needed. The NLMA claimed that in 2018, they discussed with local governments and agreed to classify such venues as D-1. However, the Taipei City Department of Urban Development pointed out that the meeting minutes only show that 'local governments suggested classifying them as D-1,' but no ruling was made by the central government, accusing the NLMA of shirking responsibility.
