Lin Yu-su Breaks Three National Records at Para Games, Misses Nagoya Asian Para Games Standard by a Hair

Taipei, May 23 (CNA) - Lin Yu-su, representing Penghu County at the 115th National Games for the Disabled, broke three national records in swimming today. However, he expressed regret after missing the qualifying standard for the Nagoya Asian Para Games by just 0.97 seconds in his signature 50-meter backstroke event. The swimming competition was held at the University of Taipei's Shixin Hall pool. Lin competed in the men's S5 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and 50m backstroke, aiming to qualify for the Nagoya Asian Para Games in October. Although he set national records in all three events, he fell short of the standard in the backstroke. In a post-match interview, Lin stated that he specializes in backstroke and is determined to secure his spot in the Asian Para Games. While his overall performance has improved, he felt he did not swim his best. Born without arms and suffering from scoliosis, Lin began swimming through hydrotherapy. He has been training with school teams since elementary school, finding joy in the sport. For him, swimming is more than just rehabilitation; it is a goal for constant self-improvement.
