Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet Performs in Tainan, 4-Hour Marathon Concert

The Tainan International Music Festival hosted the Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet on May 23. The program featured three piano quartets by Brahms, with guided listening by conductor Wu Yao-yu, totaling 4 hours and 20 minutes. The quartet consists of violinist Luis Esnaola, violist Matthew Hunter, cellist Knut Weber, and pianist Markus Groh. Conductor Wu Yao-yu guided the audience through the music, sharing insights into Brahms' personality and the 'innig' (introspective) nature of his chamber music. This concert also marked the final performance for Matthew Hunter, who is retiring from the Berlin Philharmonic this year. Cellist Knut Weber paid tribute to Hunter, acknowledging their collaboration since 1999. Hunter was visibly moved, wiping away tears, and bowed to the audience at the end of his musical journey with the group.
