Kaohsiung, May 24 (CNA) - The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) Southeast and South China Sea Branch reported that a Chinese Coast Guard vessel entered the restricted waters of Pratas Island yesterday, prompting the deployment of the 'Taichung' cutter to drive it away. The branch stated that this action, similar to recent illegal incursions by Chinese research vessels, reflects an intent to expand 'battlefield management.' At 7:25 AM yesterday, the CGA detected the Chinese vessel '3501' outside the restricted zone. Based on its course, the 'Taichung' was dispatched to intercept. The vessel entered the zone at 8:34 AM, leading to a radio standoff. The CGA emphasized that it will continue to defend national sovereignty and maintain regional stability.
