Central News Agency (Ankara) May 24. A Reuters reporter witnessed Turkish riot police using tear gas today to break through the doors of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) headquarters and evict party leader Ozgur Ozel, who had been dismissed by a court. According to Reuters, the Turkish Court of Appeals ruled on the 21st that the election results of the 2023 party congress were invalid due to irregularities, thereby revoking Ozel's position as leader of the main opposition party. The court also ruled that former party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu would serve as interim leader. Kilicdaroglu had previously lost to President Tayyip Erdogan in the national election that year.
