German star Alexander Zverev defeated local French player Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the French Open today, smoothly advancing to the second round. According to AFP, the 29-year-old Zverev is the tournament's second seed. On the scorching Philippe Chatrier court, he defeated world No. 95 Benjamin Bonzi in just over two hours. In an on-court interview, Zverev said: 'It's a great start to the tournament, and it's always nice to start with a straight-sets win. The overall performance was excellent, and I am very satisfied with the start.' Zverev will face Czech player Tomas Machac in the second round. Machac earlier defeated Belgian player Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
