Chunghwa Post announced on the 25th that starting June 1, it will launch a 'Service for Entrusting the Payment of Customs Duties for US-bound International Mail' and resume accepting commercial mail destined for the US.
The US government will fully suspend the de minimis duty exemption for low-value goods starting August 29, 2025. Consequently, all mail destined for the US with a declared value of $800 (approx. NT$25,157) or less must complete duty payment procedures before shipping to be cleared for import and delivery.
To comply with the new regulations, Chunghwa Post will launch the service on June 1. Partnering US customs brokers will handle declarations and payments, with the US Postal Service (USPS) handling final delivery. When creating a shipping label via the EZPost system, the system will automatically calculate the duties (including customs and handling fees), which must be paid along with postage.
Under current US regulations, documents, non-commercial gifts valued at $100 or less, and books remain tax-exempt. For commercial goods valued at $800 or less, duties are calculated at 10% of the declared value plus handling fees. Mail valued over $800 will continue to follow current procedures, with duties collected from the recipient upon delivery.
