Central News Agency, Taoyuan, May 25. The Taoyuan City Government will launch the 'Heart-Neighbor Companion' mental health program on June 1, targeting individuals aged 46 and older who face career and family issues, chronic illnesses, and high-load caregiving stress. The program provides psychological support to help clarify core concerns and needs. Health Bureau Director Jia Wei stated that following the Ministry of Health and Welfare's '15-45 Mental Health Support Program,' public acceptance of counseling has significantly increased. The city is extending this to the middle-aged and elderly. Psychologists from the Taoyuan Community Mental Health Center will provide an initial consultation to help organize stress sources, followed by matching with counseling institutions. Individuals can receive three sessions, with up to three more if professionally assessed. Jia noted that older adults often endure stress silently, but counseling is a tool for emotional management, not a sign of illness. Those experiencing insomnia, low mood, or caregiving pressure can access support through 38 partner institutions. The Taoyuan Counseling and Clinical Psychologist Associations emphasized that mental health is as vital as physical health in an aging society. Residents can book appointments via the 'Taoyuan E-Pass' platform.
