Rescue Mission Turns into Arrest: Coast Guard Captures Two Missing Migrant Workers and One Taiwanese Employer

According to the Central News Agency, the Eighth Coast Guard Corps of the Northern Branch announced today that a suspected drowning incident in the Green Tunnel area of Xinwu District, Taoyuan City, yesterday resulted in the arrest of two Vietnamese migrant workers and one Taiwanese man for illegal employment.

The Eighth Coast Guard Corps stated that they received a report yesterday afternoon around 4:00 PM about people falling into the water near the Green Tunnel observation pavilion. The Yong'an Inspection Station immediately dispatched personnel and requested patrol boat support. Upon arrival, officers found two men wearing life jackets swimming back to shore. When officers approached to verify their identities, the men fled.

The Coast Guard immediately launched a search. One man was captured in a windbreak forest, while the other was found hiding nearby, apparently attempting to contact someone for pickup. After expanding the search, officers discovered a suspicious red car near the Green Tunnel. Inside were a Taiwanese man and the second missing migrant worker, who attempted to flee but was surrounded and captured by the Coast Guard.

The Eighth Coast Guard Corps stated that the two Vietnamese migrant workers were handed over to the National Immigration Agency's Hsinchu City Special Task Force for processing, including detention, fines, and forced deportation under the 'Immigration Act.' The Taiwanese man involved in the illegal employment was referred to the Taoyuan City Government's Department of Labor for investigation under the 'Employment Service Act.'
