Pingtung Police Intensify Crackdown on Drug-Impaired Driving, 3 Cases Caught in 2 Days

The Pingtung County Police Bureau's Ligang Precinct issued a press release today stating that during a special crackdown on drug-impaired driving initiated on the 24th, three cases were uncovered and referred to prosecutors over two days. Police stated they will continue to strengthen inspections of high-risk individuals, accident-prone road sections, and suspicious vehicles, urging the public not to take chances. The Ligang Precinct reported that on the 24th, officers on duty spotted a man surnamed Yang riding a scooter without lights. Upon inspection, they seized three etomidate vape cartridges and 11 syringes. Yesterday, officers stopped a passenger car and found the driver, surnamed Wang, was wanted for theft, traffic-related injury and flight, and drug offenses. Two passengers were also in the car, and all three tested positive for drugs. Police seized 1.27 grams of etomidate crystals and two sets of electronic cigarette inhalers. Additionally, a man surnamed Xu was stopped yesterday for failing to yield at an intersection in Jiuru Township; he tested positive for ketamine and was referred to the Taiwan Pingtung District Prosecutors Office. The Ligang Precinct warned that possessing or using etomidate carries severe criminal penalties.
