(CNA, Paris, May 26) Former world No. 1 and Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev was defeated in a five-set thriller in the first round of the French Open men's singles today, falling 2-6, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1, 4-6 to Australian wildcard Adam Walton. This marks another shock early exit for Medvedev. Although Medvedev once reached the world No. 1 spot, he has struggled at the French Open, the Grand Slam clay-court event. Out of his nine previous appearances, he has been eliminated in the first round six times, making this his seventh first-round exit. Adam Walton, 27, is currently ranked 97th in the world and will face American player Zachary Svajda in the next round. Svajda had earlier defeated Australian player Alexei Popyrin to advance to the second round of the men's singles.
