Central News Agency (Taipei, May 26) - To protect public safety and curb drug-impaired driving, the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office issued a directive today to all local prosecutors' offices. They are instructed to actively apply to courts for preventive detention in drug-impaired driving cases, in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure, to strengthen deterrence. The High Prosecutors Office stated that the amendment to Article 101-1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure regarding preventive detention was promulgated by the President on May 13 and officially took effect on May 15. According to the press release, the office sent a fax today urging local prosecutors to respond proactively to drug-impaired driving cases, file for detention as required by law, and release information in a timely manner to demonstrate the prosecution's determination to handle such cases strictly. The office emphasized that drug-impaired driving poses severe risks to the driver and innocent citizens, and they will continue to work closely with police to enforce the law and maintain public order.
