Sam Altman, CEO of AI startup OpenAI, stated today that the rapid development and adoption of AI will not trigger a global 'job apocalypse.' The number of white-collar jobs taken by AI is not as high as he previously feared. Speaking at a video conference hosted by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in Sydney, Altman noted that while predictions about technical development since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022 were 'mostly correct,' his estimates regarding social and economic impacts were 'wrong.' He shared that he had used AI to reply to messages but switched back to doing it himself, realizing that human interaction is something AI cannot easily replace.
