Enka singer Maiko Takigawa (56) held her annual 'Maiko Takigawa Anniversary LIVE' on the 26th at the 'Shinjuku PIT INN' in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
For Takigawa, who debuted on May 21, 1989, with the single 'Otokonada', May is her highly sentimental debut month. She holds an anniversary live concert every May to express gratitude to her fans. This year, tickets sold out immediately, and the venue was packed with fans.
On stage, she started with a piano performance of 'Kyoto Futatabi', followed by her debut song 'Otokonada' and her new single 'Owakare Melancholy'. She also incorporated saxophone performances, captivating the audience.
Furthermore, taking advantage of the venue's jazz characteristics, she featured an 'En-Jazz' segment where she sang classic Enka hits like 'Tsugaru no Furusato' and 'Ame no Bojo' with jazz arrangements, showcasing her multifaceted talent beyond Enka.
During the MC segment, Takigawa reflected, 'Today, May 26th, is the day I first came to Tokyo, and I am very happy to perform here in Shinjuku. I am who I am today thanks to my mentor, Shosuke Ichikawa. It is my 38th year in the music business, and I will continue to work hard to show you a new side of Maiko Takigawa.'
