Tokyo City University (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; President: Tomoya Nishiki; hereinafter referred to as Tokyo City University) and Craft Bank Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Youngji Han; hereinafter referred to as Craft Bank) will launch the 2026 Recurrent Program "Construction Business Succession DX/AI Course" starting September 18, 2026. This course is part of the "Construction Industry DX/AI Transformation Leader Development Program" (Note 2), which was adopted for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "FY2025 Supplementary Budget for Industry-Academia Collaboration Re-skilling Ecosystem Construction Project" (Note 1).

This program is designed as a place for next-generation managers in the regional construction industry, which faces challenges of severe labor shortages and a lack of successors, to learn practical business transformation using DX and AI. Following the launch of the first term last year, this year's program will officially incorporate AI utilization into the curriculum after being adopted for the MEXT's industry-academia collaboration re-skilling project.

Through this program, Tokyo City University and Craft Bank will contribute to the sustainable development of the regional construction industry and the cultivation of next-generation management talent.

(Note 2) The "Construction Industry DX/AI Transformation Leader Development Program" consists of three courses: "Construction Business Succession DX/AI Course" for management, "BIM/CIM Academy" for engineers, and "Construction DX/AI Forum" for executives and mid-level employees.

[Background]

In the current construction industry, the number of workers has decreased by approximately 30% from 6.85 million in 1997 to 4.77 million in 2024 (Note 3). The average age of managers is 63.7 years (Note 4), and the rate of companies without successors exceeds half at 57.3% (Note 5), indicating a simultaneous progression of labor shortages and stagnation in generational change. Furthermore, many managers recognize the need for DX but hesitate, unsure of where to start. Now, with the rapid spread of AI, the lack of digital understanding among management is further accelerating labor shortages.

To address these structural issues, Tokyo City University and Craft Bank have been implementing a practical recurrent program through industry-academia collaboration since 2025. The first term participants provided feedback such as "It was extremely beneficial," leading to the launch of the 2026 program.

By collaborating, Tokyo City University, with its extensive achievements in construction and urban engineering, and Craft Bank, a company that co-creates AI/DX for construction management through a supportive approach, will provide practical learning tailored to the industry's reality and systematic knowledge from an academic perspective simultaneously.

The curriculum, which fuses the expertise of both industry and academia, will enable students to develop the practical skills needed to implement business transformation in the regional construction industry.

- Acquire the ability to execute business transformation through diverse instructors and a practical curriculum

Through lectures, group work, and on-site fieldwork with a diverse range of instructors including managers from major general contractors and regional construction companies, as well as construction DX specialists, participants will hone their practical skills to solve their company's challenges on the spot. Continuous connection with alumni from the first term is also a feature.

- Systematically learn cutting-edge DX/AI specialized for the construction industry through first-line experts and site visits
