freee K.K. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Daisuke Sasaki, hereinafter "freee") will begin offering the "freee HR Year-End Adjustment Plan," which enables end-to-end digitalization of year-end adjustment tasks, from document collection to electronic filing with the National Tax Agency and local governments, within freee HR.

Additionally, in response to the tax system revision scheduled to take effect in January 2027, which will lower the threshold for mandatory electronic filing of statutory reports from 100 or more documents to 30 or more, a first-year free campaign will also be launched concurrently.

Supporting Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Response to the Lowered Electronic Filing Threshold to 30 or More Documents

Traditionally, year-end adjustments for small and medium-sized enterprises have been a significant burden, not only due to the effort involved in collecting documents from employees and checking for errors, but also in submitting statutory reports to tax offices and municipalities. Furthermore, the tax system revision rules will apply to statutory reports (such as withholding tax slips for employees and payment slips for external contractors) submitted from January 2027 onwards. Since statutory reports are generally issued one per employee, the number of documents submitted is almost directly proportional to the number of employees. This means that small and medium-sized enterprises with 30 to 100 employees (companies with fewer than 30 to fewer than 100 statutory reports submitted in the year before last) that have continued to use paper-based operations will become subject to mandatory electronic filing, requiring them to adapt to digitalization. Since selecting a system after the busy autumn season begins carries the risk of not having enough time for environmental preparation, freee has launched the "freee HR Year-End Adjustment Plan" and the first-year free campaign to allow for ample time to implement and configure the system well before the busy season.

<Features of the "freee HR Year-End Adjustment Plan">

AI Reads Supporting Documents, Completed on Smartphones

Employees can simply take photos of their supporting documents with their smartphones, and AI will automatically enter the information. Furthermore, employees can complete calculations for deductions and refunds with a single click by answering questions in an interview format. Since tasks can be completed on everyday devices such as smartphones and tablets, the burden on employees is reduced.

Completed from Request to Electronic Filing within the Product, Reducing Labor Burden

From requesting year-end adjustment submissions to employee input and electronic filing with the National Tax Agency and local governments, everything is seamlessly completed within the "freee HR Year-End Adjustment Plan." This reduces the time and effort previously required by HR staff for document collection and requests for error corrections.

Can Be Used in Conjunction with Other Payroll Software or Spreadsheet Software

This plan can be implemented while maintaining your current payroll calculation operations using existing payroll software or spreadsheet software. It is possible to partially digitalize only the electronic filing process for year-end adjustments.

"First-Year Free Campaign" to Reduce the Burden of Legal Amendments

To reduce the cost burden on small businesses due to legal amendments and to enable easy and reliable compliance, the "freee HR Year-End Adjustment Plan" will be offered free of charge for the first year. This will enable end-to-end processing from document collection to filing, promoting operational efficiency and compliance for companies.

Comment from Yosuke Kurokawa, Tax Accountant, Atlas Tax Corporation General Office

The lowering of the threshold for mandatory electronic filing due to the current tax system revision represents a major practical turning point for many small and medium-sized enterprises. Especially during the busy year-end period, building an unfamiliar electronic filing environment and checking documents can be a significant burden. It is extremely important from the perspective of ensuring compliance to review one's own company's workflow and take measures for digitalization or efficiency improvements starting now, before the busy autumn season arrives.
