When asked about the most difficult aspects before starting asset management, 'lack of knowledge' was the most common response at 37.9%, followed by 'too many options and not knowing what to choose' (22.7%) and 'fear of losing principal' (18.6%) (Note 2). The top three responses accounted for approximately 80% of all responses, indicating that lack of specialized knowledge, difficulty in product selection, and fear of losing principal are barriers to starting asset management.

'WealthNavi' is an asset management service that proposes the optimal asset management plan and automatically handles product trading, rebalancing, and the use of NISA (Note 3). The most common reason for choosing 'WealthNavi' was 'can delegate management' at 74.8%. This was followed by 'can start even without knowledge' (43.2%), 'can invest globally' (34.1%), and 'NISA can be used' (23.1%). It was found that 'WealthNavi' is evaluated for its automatic management and diversification functions, as well as being chosen as a means to utilize the NISA system.

'Delegation was a good choice' at 98% overwhelmingly

When asked if they thought delegating asset management was a good choice, 98.4% answered 'yes', indicating that delegated asset management is highly evaluated (Note 4).

Appreciating the benefits of delegation in investment results and reduced effort

When asked about the reasons why delegating was a good choice, the most common response was 'I think I get better results than if I were to choose and invest myself' at 60.2%. This was followed by 'the time spent thinking or worrying about asset management has decreased' (49.4%) and 'psychological anxiety about asset management has decreased' (33.0%), indicating that the burden of time and psychological stress has also been reduced (Note 5).

When asked about specific situations where respondents felt that delegating was a good choice, many mentioned investment results, such as 'I get better results than if I were to choose and invest myself'. Additionally, there were evaluations of the convenience of automation, such as 'I can use the time I would have spent thinking about investments for myself', and psychological comfort and peace of mind, such as 'I don't have to be happy or sad about stock market fluctuations'.

There were also responses highlighting the strength against market fluctuations, such as 'Even when the stock market is bad, I am less shocked because my assets are diversified', and the ease of use for beginners, such as 'The hurdle to start investing is low, and I was able to start investing at an early stage' (Note 6).

More than half said they would have delayed starting asset management if the option to delegate had not been available

When asked what they would have done if they had not had the option to delegate asset management like 'WealthNavi', 'it took time to choose an asset management method, so I started late' was the most common response at 53.9%, significantly higher than other options. Combined with 'I was not doing asset management (only savings)' at 18.0%, it can be said that delegation prevented missed opportunities for about 70% of respondents. On the other hand, there were also responses such as 'I can decide for myself, so there was no particular impact' (18.2%) (Note 7).
