National Theatre Live 'The Audience'

Since its release, this production has seen a continuous string of sold-out shows, receiving comments such as "I wanted to see it but it was sold out," "I hope for an extension," and "It was wonderful, I'd like to see it again if possible." In response to these expectations, it will be screened at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya until May 14 (Thu), and an emergency screening has been decided to move to TOHO Cinemas Chante from May 15 (Fri).

This year marks the 100th birth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, the main character of 'The Audience.' It is the perfect year to watch this production, which depicts the "audiences" that Queen Elizabeth II held with successive prime ministers over her 60-year reign. Peter Morgan, who also wrote the screenplay for the film 'The Queen' (2006) which featured the Queen, is also responsible for the screenplay of this production. Peter researched historical documents related to the "audiences," whose conversations are constitutionally forbidden from being recorded or disclosed to others, and created this work with rich imagination. Confronting individuals burdened by the pressure of leading the nation, from Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher and Prime Minister Major, the Queen sometimes engages in humorous conversations, sometimes speaks harsh words, and rarely reveals human weaknesses. Helen Mirren, who played the Queen in this production, has won numerous awards, including double wins for the Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award for Best Actress. Directed by the master Stephen Daldry, this ultimate entertainment, which fuses the weight of history with exquisite humor, is a must-see not only for film and theater fans but also for anyone who wants to experience excellent entertainment. Don't miss this opportunity for the best theatrical experience at the cinema.
