Ahead of its Japanese theatrical release this weekend, prominent figures connected to Arthur Miller’s works have shared their endorsements after previewing the production. Contributors include Hikaru Asami, who played Ann Deever in the 2011 Japanese production of 'All My Sons'; Soji Oda, translator for the upcoming June 26 premiere of Miller’s 'Death of a Salesman'; Keishi Nagatsuka, director of multiple Miller productions including 'Death of a Salesman' (2018, 2021) and 'The Clock' (2023); Atsuro Hirota, a leading Japanese translator of Miller’s works including 'All My Sons' (2022) and 'A View from the Bridge' (2023); and Hajime Yamazaki, who directed Miller’s 'The Price' with his company Garba in 2022 and played Dr. Jim Bayliss in Hirota’s 2022 production of 'All My Sons'.

In a world where war continues, this emotionally powerful and thought-provoking production invites audiences to experience its profound impact on the big screen.

I was fortunate enough to see Ivo van Hove’s production of 'The Glass Menagerie' before. As an audience member, the immersive storytelling left a lasting impression. Now, watching 'All My Sons,' I feel the same intense engagement and excitement.

The actors’ breaths and emotions are so vividly conveyed, it’s hard to look away—even through a screen. I urge everyone to experience van Hove’s masterful direction and the dream-cast ensemble that pulls viewers deep into the narrative. The themes resonate deeply with modern audiences, leaving behind lingering questions long after the final scene.

Hikaru Asami (Actor)

Translating Arthur Miller, I’m constantly amazed by the brilliance of his dialogue. The personal lives woven through his lines reflect a microcosm of society. This production is emotionally intense and deeply moving. Ivo van Hove’s artistic, fluid direction delicately constructs dialogue—and even ladders—into powerful dramatic elements.

What does it mean to be human? What is life? What is wealth? How does war drive people to madness?

I’d love to translate 'All My Sons' someday. Maybe I’ll ask Frank to check my horoscope to see when it’s fated.

Soji Oda (Playwright Translator)

Ivo van Hove has once again shown me what this play truly is. The unrealistically large tree toppled by wind. The stage gradually submerged in a deep-sea blue as the story approaches its core. The sound of an axe striking wood, echoing from a distant forest. A family cast with actors of diverse skin tones. These elements, carved out like with a sharp chisel, expose not only the father—steeped in machismo and capitalism (wearing a Trump-like cap)—but also the latent prejudice each character holds toward others. If sons inherit something from their fathers, perhaps the title 'All My Sons' points not to human conscience, but to the enduring flaws of humanity—an unsettling truth worth confronting.

Kyoko Tokunaga (Theatre Journalist)

There is a foolish yet lovable depiction of ordinary lives. People somehow reconcile, barely tolerate one another, and grasp at small happiness to survive. Justice and honesty can become sharp weapons. And love deepens sorrow. Within a simple stage design, the production relentlessly engages the audience’s senses, creeping into the wounded hearts of the Kellers, the Deever family, and their neighbors. As long as war continues, this story will play out across the world—perhaps it will never truly end.

Keishi Nagatsuka (Playwright, Director, Actor)

I thought I knew this play—but I was shattered all over again. Ivo van Hove’s direction brilliantly reveals 'All My Sons' not as a mere social family drama, but as a modern tragedy about guilt and memory. The duality of everyday language emerging in a simple, symbolic space, and the indelible scars—how can one possibly live by forgetting in such a broken world?

Atsuro Hirota (Playwright Translator)

A must-see production now!

Arthur Miller’s words pierce my heart again and again. Ivo van Hove’s direction reflects today’s global situation perfectly. I hope leaders of certain nations will watch it, feel it, and realize—'All My Sons' means exactly that.
