Rie Ishikawa (Ishikawa Rie)

Writer, Editor, Weekend Bookstore Owner

Born in Tokyo in 1970. Studied graphic design at a correspondence art junior college, then worked in job advertisement production and as a DTP operator before formally beginning her career as a writer through an apprenticeship. Since 2000, she has worked as a freelance writer, planning, editing, and writing feature articles and interviews on everyday life topics. Her recent publications include 'Living in an Empty House' (co-authored with Kyoko Kato, Gijutsu Hyoronsha) and 'Beginner’s Guide to Making Books for Yourself: Zines & Little Presses' (Graphic-sha). While working, she studied psychology through a correspondence university program and volunteered with an NPO supporting school-refusing youth. In 2023, she opened 'Cocoro no Honya' (Heart Bookstore) in her hometown of Higashi-Nagasaki, Tokyo. The store operates only a few days each month. She also hosts small-group workshops such as 'Listening and Writing' and 'Writing Your Life Story as a Zine,' fostering deep, personal connections. Her primary interest is 'understanding human emotions.' Her work is guided by the principle of 'not blaming myself, not blaming others,' aiming to free people from limiting beliefs and mental constraints.
