July 8, 2026—DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and creative camera technology, today announced the DJI AP100 Parachute for the Matrice 400. Designed for rear-mounted installation and weighing approximately 935 g, this added safety system minimizes the impact on flight time to about 6 minutes while maintaining the Matrice 400's maximum takeoff weight of 15.8 kg. It features an independent power supply and a fully redundant configuration, supporting both manual and automatic deployment. With a response time of less than 600 ms[1] and a descent speed of less than 5 m/s[1], the AP100 Parachute can be added to protect the aircraft, payload, and surrounding environment during operations.
Achieve Operational Safety in Europe and Other Regions Worldwide
By equipping the AP100 Parachute, the DJI Matrice 400 industrial drone can meet the operational safety requirements of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). More specifically, by attaching the DJI AP100 Parachute to an existing Matrice 400, it can meet the C5 or UK5 operational safety requirements when applied to STS-01. However, C6 or UK6 class labels only apply to factory-certified systems. This means that to meet the C6 or UK6 requirements applicable to STS-02, a new DJI Matrice 400 (C6) Worry-Free Plus Combo including the AP100 parachute will be required. Furthermore, the AP 100 Parachute supports compliance with requirements for standard scenarios such as flying over densely populated urban areas (STS-01) and operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) (STS-02).
Safety Self-Check Function, Dual Redundant System
The AP100 Parachute functions as a self-contained safety module, ensuring operational safety independently from the moment the Matrice 400 is powered on until the end of the flight. The parachute continuously monitors the status of the gas generator and communication links, sending real-time alerts in case of anomalies. Equipped with an independent flight control system and sensors, and further utilizing intelligent algorithms to continuously cross-validate data between the drone and the parachute in real-time, it significantly reduces the risk of accidental deployment.
None of these functions rely on the Matrice 400's power supply or active E-Port connection. The AP100 has a built-in dual capacitor, providing up to 1 hour[1] of independent backup power, enabling continuous monitoring of flight attitude and automatic deployment. Meanwhile, when the independent Flight Termination System (FTS) is activated, it cuts power to the motors within 600 ms[1], stopping the rotors before parachute deployment to prevent entanglement.
Rapid Deployment Minimizes Impact
The AP100 Parachute can be deployed automatically or manually. If anomalies in flight attitude or speed are detected, the parachute will deploy automatically within 600 ms[1] and descend at a speed of less than 5 m/s[1]. This safety feature is designed to protect the aircraft, payload, and ground safety for operators. The parachute can also be deployed by operating a slider on the DJI Pilot 2 screen.
In other supported countries/regions, including the EU and UK, automatic deployment is activated when the drone crosses a geofencing boundary set in the DJI Pilot 2 app, and remote deployment can be executed from the Flight Termination System (FTS) in DJI FlightHub 2. After deployment, the AP100 Parachute continuously emits a loud warning sound and a high-brightness flashlight for approximately 1 hour, prompting people on the ground to evacuate and assisting operators in recovering the equipment.
Designed for Operation in Harsh Environments
With the same IP55 dust and water resistance as the Matrice 400, this system operates stably even in harsh environments such as dense sandstorms and heavy rain. It maintains stable performance within a temperature range of -20° to 50° C, providing consistent results in both hot and cold conditions.
