Drones Take Over Railways: 'Drone DX CHAMPIONSHIP 2026' Returns to Takanawa on June 7th, Featuring Expo-Showcased VR

DRONE SPORTS Inc. is once again taking the lead in project management and operations for the 'JR East Group Drone DX CHAMPIONSHIP 2026' (organized by East Japan Railway Company), held at TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, the largest station-front integrated development directly connected to Takanawa Gateway Station.

In its second year, the event expands its racing scope from 'stations' to overall railway infrastructure, including tracks, electrical facilities, and towers. The newly established 'Railway Tech Skills Cup' will feature the first-time participation of other railway operators, increasing the number of participating teams from 12 to 32.

The venue will offer various activities for all ages, including race viewing, VR experiences of the next-generation inspection project 'Project SPARROW' (previously showcased at the Osaka-Kansai Expo), and toy drone flight experiences. The event is free to enter and requires no reservation.

Highlights

(1) Future Railway Inspection: 'Project SPARROW' Exhibition Project SPARROW, developed by Liberaware Co., Ltd., CalTa Co., Ltd., and others, aims to enhance the safety and productivity of railway infrastructure inspections. It integrates autonomous drones capable of inspections and emergency checks with a digital twin platform for data analysis.

(2) Drone Flight Experience on the Race Course 1. Drone Railway Inspection Challenge Target: 5 years old to upper elementary school students Time: 15:30–16:00

2. Drone Course Experience Target: Upper elementary school students to adults Time: 16:00–16:30
