Exedy Subsidiary Protean Electric to Start World's First Mass Production of In-Wheel Motors for Renault EVs from 2027

Exedy Corporation announced that its UK subsidiary, Protean Electric, has partnered with Renault to equip the 'Renault 5 Turbo 3E' with its in-wheel motor (IWM) technology, starting sales in 2027. This marks the world's first instance of a major automaker standardizing IWMs in a mass-produced passenger car. The system generates 555 hp and enables 0-62 mph acceleration in under 3.5 seconds. This technology enhances energy efficiency by reducing transmission loss and increases cabin space by integrating drive units into the wheels, representing a major milestone for EV evolution.
