On May 9-10, 2026, Yaoyoro Juku organized a two-day experiential learning event centered on an official visit to Ise Jingu in Ise and Matsusaka, Mie Prefecture. The program aimed to teach Japanese history and mythology through experience rather than mere rote knowledge. The event was limited to 20 participants and was fully booked.
Participants conducted an official prayer (Okakichi-sanpai) at the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu, a sacred area with restricted access. They offered prayers to Amaterasu Omikami in the divine space beyond the offertory box, feeling the essence of Japanese culture and spirituality firsthand. The itinerary also included visits to the Motoori Norinaga Memorial Museum and the Saiku Historical Museum.
On the first day, participants enjoyed traditional activities such as 'Kai-awase' (shell matching) and riding in a 'Soka-ren' palanquin. The second day began with an early morning visit to the Geku (Outer Shrine), followed by the official visit to the Naiku (Inner Shrine), a stroll through Okage Yokocho, and visits to Sarutahiko Shrine and Izanomiya. Participants noted that they felt history as 'part of life' rather than just facts. Yaoyoro Juku, which primarily operates on social media, plans to continue hosting real-world events across Japan.
