Famima Food Drive Marks 5th Anniversary
FamilyMart Co., Ltd. (HQ: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Tateo Kotani) announced that its 'Famima Food Drive' initiative, launched in 2021, has reached its 5th anniversary, achieving a milestone of 5,000 participating stores as of May 18, with the latest installation in Hamamatsu City. The cumulative donation amount has reached 600 tons (equivalent to approximately 6 million rice balls), cementing its status as essential community infrastructure.
### Growing Role Amidst Rising Prices
The 'Famima Food Drive' is a bridge-building activity where surplus food from homes is collected at stores and delivered to those in need through local partner organizations. Given the impact of rising prices, the social role of collecting household food surplus has become increasingly important. This achievement is the result of 'accumulated daily kindness' from local customers who contribute while shopping at any of the 5,000 participating stores.
### Six Industry Recognitions
This initiative has been highly regarded by third parties. To date, it has received six awards, including the 'Climate Change Action Environment Minister's Award (FY2024)' and the 'Corporate Philanthropy Award (FY2025).' These honors represent a 'proof of trust' shared with approximately 680 cooperating partner organizations nationwide and the customers who contribute their food.
### Future Outlook and Special Web Page
Now that one of Japan's largest support networks is established, FamilyMart aims to make social contribution more of a 'daily scene' in society. The company will continue to deepen its collaboration with partner organizations to build a flexible support system. Additionally, a special website has been launched to present the program's history, featuring a message from comedian Shuichi Takizawa of Machine Guns, who is well-versed in environmental issues.
